Dee’s Key Notes (June 2020)

“Help Me Help You!” 

A quick 4-3-2-1 safe and socially distant note from your friend and real estate agent, Dee. 

This month, you may notice in my header photo, I look like a castaway, a little hairier than usual. I’m a cocoon-away. We all know what that’s about, right? Home haircuts, no makeup, wiping covid19 off our groceries, washing hands after touching groceries, wearing bunny slippers all day long . . . So, I’ve been trying to think of a way to write you an upbeat letter in the midst of crises—illness, death, violence, chaos, job losses, homelessness . . . It’s overwhelming, the number and size of today’s problems that we need to solve. But I’m uplifted by the positive, peaceful protests that continue. We the people coming together are changing the world. That is my hope and maybe, starting here, I can shine a tiny flicker of light out into my small part of the universe which is you. And, on the upside, none of you can actually see my unkempt cocoon-away hair, my unmade-up face, my stretchy lounge pants, and ugly slippers. That’s why I added a touch of reality to my header photo. Believe me, it took a hair & makeup specialist and a professional photographer to capture what you see under that cartoon hair!

Seriously though, lately I’ve been thinking, What could I possibly offer anyone right now when all I have are these words? This is just a silly letter, but I’ll go ahead and offer a few healthy tips and reminders; a little motivation to help you focus on that task, assignment, or project you’ve been wanting to finish or start; and a cool quote by a famous person. And maybe, I’ll even make you laugh, which is something I also like to do with my words.

Below, you’ll find the next frog-eating tips 16, 17, and 18 which may just be the keys you need to help you procrastinate-less-and-get-stuff-done. You know the project I’m talking about. Just do it! 4 things to know about washing your everyday face masks

  1. Wash your mask regularly (after each wear), to ensure contaminates, makeup, oils, etc. don’t lead to bacteria growth.
  2. Use HOT water to help disinfect and destroy any viruses; machine wash on “sanitize” or handwash for at least 20 seconds (132.8° is hot enough according to the WHO).
  3. Discard your mask’s filter after each use too (if virus particles were captured, reuse could add to your risk of contamination).
  4. Use your dryer instead of air-drying for a more effective clean (recommended by the CDC).

3 frog-eating ways to help you focus on that important task or project you’ve been wanting to start—or finish. (You know the one.)

  1. Technology is a wonderful servant: Use your technological tools to confront yourself with what is most important and protect yourself from what is least important.  
  2. Focus your attention: Stop the interruptions and distractions that interfere with completing your most important tasks.
  3.  Slice and dice the task: Break large, complex tasks down into bite-sized pieces, and then do just one small part of the task to get started.
